Assistant / PhD Position in Statistics and Financial Econometrics (m/w/d)

70% (unlimited, by Starting in Fall 2021)

Your tasks

Topics for the thesis can cover both theoretical and empirical methods in statistics, machine learning, and financial econometrics. Examples of topics and recent research articles that could be starting points for a PhD thesis can be seen at:


The position will be part of the group in Mathematics and Statistics at the University of St. Gallen, http://www.mathstat.unisg.ch/. The new PhD candidate is expected to interact strongly with the professors of the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics in the development of the thesis, as well as with professors and post-docs of the Department of Economics. He/she is also expected to collaborate in the development of the teaching activities of the group in the areas of Statistics and Financial Econometrics.

Your profile

The successful candidate has acquired (or is about to complete) a Master's degree in Quantitative Methods with applications in Economics, Finance, or a related field with excellent grades, and has a strong motivation to conduct own research. Moreover, the successful candidate is expected to enroll in the University's PhD Program GPEF in Economics and Finance (www.gpef.unisg.ch).
Strong English skills are required, German knowledge and prior teaching experience is an advantage. The salary is internationally competitive and based on the scale for Ph.D. students of the University of St. Gallen.
